Court Steps Recount

The Supreme Court, on February 19, 2008, ruled in favor of the Temporary Restraining Order (TRO), filed on behalf of Governor Ed Panlilio, by the legal team composed of Atty. Romy Macalintal (spokesperson) and Atty Jun Francisco. This SC decision virtually stopped the recount contemplated by the opponents of the Governor, led by Mrs.Bong (Lilia) Pineda, who lost the election to Governor Panlilio.

Five days earlier, on Februray 14, Valentine's Day, a group of 150-180 supporters of Governor Panlilio picketed the streets across the Supreme Court. The impressive rally made its point loud and clear.

The lawyers representing the Governor stated that the election of Governor Panlilio was the cleanest ever and that "the pro bono work being extended to the Governor goes to a higher purpose of upholding truth and advocating good governance." Atty Macalintal ended by saying that he believed that "through the Supreme Court, the true voice of the people can be heard."
